We’re well placed as a base for exploring the area, particularly the north Norfolk coastline. Among many places worth a visit within easy reach are:
- Just around the corner from Rose Villa is the home of Norfolk Lavender, a must for gardening fans and a pleasant way to while away a few hours with a guided tour, a trip to the gift shop, or a cup of tea in delightful surroundings. Admission is free.
- Historic King’s Lynn, home of the Leaning Tower featured on TV’s Restoration series, with a wide variety of shops and places of interest.
- The ”proper seaside” delights of Hunstanton, known locally as ‘Sunny Hunny’, about two miles north of Heacham: a traditional British seaside town with shops, theatre/cinema, amusement arcades and a funfair. There’s the excellent Sea Life Centre, with seals and otters as the star attractions, which has established quite a reputation for rescuing injured and orphaned seals and nursing them to health before releasing them back to the wild. There’s also a major leisure pool complex, the Oasis Centre, Hunstanton Golf Course, and a fine sandy beach
- Holkham: a stately home with, directly opposite, one of Britain’s best beaches - 9 miles of unspoilt sand, part of an English Nature reserve. Ideal for birdwatching, a quiet stroll or just having a picnic.
- Burnham Market: a delightful market town with a wide selection of specialist shops.
- If you want to see seals in the wild, try a boat trip from Morston, near Blakeney. You can practically stroke them, and you’d swear they were posing for photographs!
- Snettisham has a Farm Park, with a good assortment of animals, ideal for keeping kids of all ages amused.
- Wells-next-the-Sea combines a charming harbour town with coastal views and a miniature railway.
- The Royal Estate of Sandringham is only a short drive away.
- Castle Rising Castle, between Heacham and King’s Lynn is worth a visit and plays host to events ranging from Romeo and Juliet in the open air to jousting and battle re-enactments.
- And of course birdwatchers are well catered for, with RSPB reserves at Snettisham and Titchwell.
